The 2008 Greener Future Exhibit – ‘Ripple Effect’
‘The Ripple Effect,’ sponsored by Duke Energy, is designed to educate and promote stewardship gardening and energy efficiency in the home. This unique exhibit, encompassing over 2,000 square feet, is a collaboration of local architectural firms, college students, private companies and noted individuals who are experts in the Green industry, and will motivate visitors to begin thinking about and planning for a greener future.
The exhibit is designed by the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning Graphic Design students, under the guidance of project manager Chris Manning and Human Nature, Inc. Other collaborative partners include GBNN Architects, Kolar Design, area horticulturalists and builders, the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Marvin’s Organic Gardens, Urban Thickets and Melink.
The Ripple Effect features the latest innovations in energy saving appliances and renewable building materials. A roof with alternating green panels has been designed and donated by the Cincinnati Zoo. After the Show, the panels will become a permanent part of the Cincinnati Zoo’s Giraffe House, and will be the largest green roof on display in the U.S.A.
The gardens of the exhibit embrace a sustainable lifestyle. Beautifully designed vegetable, herb and edible flower gardens are coupled with a fascinating rain garden. A garden with disease and insect resistant annuals attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.
Step into the future.
